Major US Online university's Learner's experience was fragmented, static and difficult to use. They had recently migrated to Salesforce, and wanted to leverage the data from their new CRM to enhance the learner experience and use that transformation as a spring board for a complete portal overhaul and digital property consolidation.

Process
Using existing research, and stakeholder workshops, we aligned on a new vision for the portal experience, and defined the portal MVP. Concurrently, we developed a new content strategy and governance process for the new experience.

Leveraging Salesforce Communities, the UX/UI and content teams collaborated to design key flows and a component library for the new experience. We then managed development of the MVP release for the new Learner Portal.

Outcome
More than 170,000 learners now have access to key resources, process and tools via the new Learner Portal. The dynamic content and tool functionality on the Learner Portal is now enabled by Salesforce CRM, reducing integration and custom content creation needs.

Product Vision

We designed a series of workshops with executives and senior stakeholders to define a vision and tangible outcomes for the product.

The vision was critical to create consensus among a very diverse set of stakeholders including product owners for products that were being consolidated and sunsetted by the learner portal.

MVP Principles

Critical for attaining the velocity we wanted for the product roadmap, we crafted some guiding principles on how we would prioritize and develop. These principles were workshopped, and often referred to when having difficult backlog conversations.

Product Backlog & Roadmap

Moving quickly, we created a product backlog later converted to Jira. This backlog served as the raw data for the product roadmap which kicked off design and development.

Low Fidelity Wireframes

The solution was developed using Salesforce Community Cloud. One of our MVP principles was to use out-of-the-box features and Lighting components whenever possible in order to increase development velocity and make the solution scalable.

Final Designs

Our UI team created a new design system using Lightning components, creating a skin over the wireframes, and introducing micro-interactions to provide moments of surprise and delight.
